Spain Ends Year as Number One Ranked Team by FIFA

The European champions, Spain will end the year as the world’s best soccer team according to the latest poll by FIFA. Coming into the 2008 season, Spain was ranked 4th, but after winning Euro 2008 they were the top ranked team for the last six months without anyone being able to overtake them. During their World Cup qualifying matches in Group Five, Spain has won all four matches and look to be in fine form to advance into the next round as they scored 10 goals and only gave up one. The news of more goals just got more interesting as Real Madrid forward Raul who has scored 44 goals in 102 matches for Spain has not been ruled out to come back to the national team during World Cup qualifying. The hard part however will be trying to find a place for him as he will have to beat out superstar forwards David Villa and Fernando Torres, if Torres can’t stay fit, there should be room for the 31 year old Raul to get back into the team’s lineup.
