You read the headline right, Real Madrid captain Raul Gonzalez wants the best of the best teams to play during the knockout round in the Champions League. Well, aren’t they getting average results at best against average teams in the Spanish Primera League and when they do play a top flight team like Barcelona they received a shutout loss, so where is this coming from that he wants to play the likes of Manchester United, Inter Milan or a Bayern Munich? In an article on Goal.com he was quoted as saying “There can be teams that may make things easier, but what interests us is that we are playing well and if Madrid is on form then we can beat anyone.” Can beat anyone? Is this the same Real Madrid team that is currently sitting in 5th place in the Primera League? Unless they make some huge signings during the January transfer window, they should hope they get one of the non favorite teams to win the tournament so they can build some momentum with their new coach and go from there to a possible championship run in the Champions League.

Well we are happy to hear that Gonzalez is thinking that they are still in contention for the Primera Liga title as well as a possible Champions League title that can only make for better games to watch during the remainder of the season. But Real Madrid and teammates might not be as hopeful if they were to get an unfavorable draw in the Champions League that is made on Friday, until then we will just have to wait and see.
